AT&T has agreed to pay $177 million to settle claims related to two separate data breaches that occurred in 2024, potentially affecting millions of current and former customers across the United States. The company faced multiple lawsuits following the exposure of customer information on the dark web.
Although AT&T denied any wrongdoing or admission of fault, it chose to settle to avoid the cost and time of further litigation. The settlement aims to compensate individuals whose personal data may have been exposed during either or both of the incidents.
Eligible claimants may receive up to $7,500 depending on the type of information breached, the losses experienced, and whether they were affected by one or both incidents. Those who qualify must submit their claims before December 18, 2025.

Overview of the AT&T Data Breaches
In March 2024, AT&T announced that customer information, including data fields specific to its network, was found posted on the dark web. The company stated that it found no proof of unauthorized access to its internal systems, but confirmed that the compromised data contained information of approximately 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former customers.
A few months later, in July 2024, AT&T reported another data incident. This time, limited customer data was downloaded illegally from a cloud workspace hosted by Snowflake Inc.. The exposed data included account names, telephone numbers, and usage details. A small subset of users had more detailed network information, such as cell-site IDs exposed.
Both incidents led to the filing of numerous class-action lawsuits. The cases were later consolidated before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas (Case No. 3:24-md-03114-E). After months of negotiations, a settlement agreement was reached in March 2025.
Settlement Fund and Allocation
The total settlement fund is $177 million, divided between the two data incidents.
| Incident | Year | Settlement Amount | Primary Cause |
|---|---|---|---|
| AT&T 1 Data Incident | March 2024 | $149 million | Data released on the dark web |
| AT&T 2 Data Incident | July 2024 | $28 million | Cloud platform breach (Snowflake) |
Funds from the settlement will be used to pay eligible claimants, legal fees, and administrative costs. The amount each person receives will depend on the claim type, the number of valid claims, and the severity of exposure.
Who Can File a Claim
Anyone in the United States whose data was affected by either of the two AT&T incidents is eligible to file a claim. This includes both current and former customers. Individuals impacted by both breaches fall under the Overlap Class, which makes them eligible for combined compensation of up to $7,500.
AT&T 1 Class Members include customers whose data appeared in the March 2024 dark web dataset. AT&T 2 Class Members include those whose data was exposed in the July 2024 cloud platform breach. Notifications are being sent to eligible individuals by Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, the official settlement administrator.
Payment Structure and Benefits
The settlement allows affected customers to receive compensation in two primary ways.
1. Documented Loss Reimbursement
Claimants who suffered direct financial losses related to the breaches can claim reimbursement for expenses such as identity theft, fraud charges, or account monitoring costs.
- Up to $5,000 for losses linked to the AT&T 1 incident (occurring from 2019 onward).
- Up to $2,500 for losses linked to the AT&T 2 incident (occurring on or after April 14, 2024).
2. Tiered Cash Payment
If a claimant does not have documentation of financial loss, they may still receive a smaller cash amount depending on the sensitivity of the data exposed.
- Tier 1: For those whose Social Security numbers were exposed.
- Tier 2: For exposure of less sensitive information, such as account or contact details.
All payments are subject to court approval and will be distributed only after final settlement approval.

Deadlines and Important Dates
To be eligible for payment, claimants must adhere to the official deadlines set by the court:

| Opt-Out or Objection Deadline | November 17, 2025 |
| Final Approval Hearing | January 15, 2026 (9:00 a.m. CT) |
Payments are expected to be issued in mid-2026, depending on the number of valid claims and any appeals that may arise after final approval.
What Happens After You File
Once a claim is filed, the administrator will verify eligibility and calculate the payment amount based on the type of claim submitted. The process involves several verification steps to ensure that each claim is valid and corresponds with the affected data records.
After the final court approval, payments will be sent via check or electronic transfer, depending on the option selected by the claimant. The settlement website will publish updates on payment timelines and status after the approval hearing.
If a claimant opts out, they retain the right to pursue individual legal action against AT&T. However, those who accept payment under this settlement forfeit any further claims related to these incidents.
